Hugo

Set in 1931 Paris, Hugo follows an orphaned boy living within the walls of a bustling train station who becomes entangled in a mystery linked to his late father and a remarkable mechanical automaton. As he searches for the key that will unlock its secret, Hugo’s journey unfolds with moments of peril and gentle reflections on loss, handled with sensitivity and warmth. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film was widely acclaimed, winning five awards at the Academy Awards and earning 11 nominations in total.

And, in the spirit of our exhibition Tick Tock Marvels: The Playful World of Automata, we’d be hard-pressed not to include a film where the plot quite literally hinges on a wind-up marvel. Come and celebrate the magic of all things that move!

Tickets are £5. Film starts at 2pm. Running time 2h 6min and is rated U.
