Afternoon of Talks - Romans - International Women's Day
Join us for an afternoon of talks with Alexandra Sills and the team from Uncovering Roman Carlisle to celebrate International Women's Day.
Alexandra Sills, Women in the Roman Arena
We think of the gladiators of the Colosseum displaying their masculinity, ferocity and discipline but what of the women of the arena? What were their lives like and what did it take to be a female gladiator in a male world?
Uncovering Roman Carlisle
Join us for a talk from the Uncovering Roman Carlisle team about women’s lives in Roman Carlisle. What do the finds from the Cricket Club dig tell us about the women who lived here – their brooches, hairpins, drinking vessels and altars all give us clues.
Tickets £23 / Tullie friends £20 (Ticket includes both Talks and access to our Roman exhibits)
Alexandra's talk begins at 1.15 and the Uncovering Roman Carlisle talk begins at 2.45pm. There will be a 20 minute break between the two talks.
